In order for the Knicks to acquire Carmelo Anthony via trade, they may have to improve their standing offer to the Nuggets.
As the proposal currently stands, the Knicks would only need to give up Wilson Chandler, Anthony Randolph, Eddy Curry’s expiring contract, Andy Rautins and Kelenna Azubuike’s expiring contract.
“It’s a little ways from being realistic,” said an NBA source said. “They [the Nuggets] don’t want to do a deal that is much worse than [the] Jersey [deal that’s now off the table], and they are only 3 1/2 games out of first place [entering last night].”
The Nuggets are believed to be considering making a run for a championship season rather than trade Anthony to New York in a less than overwhelming deal.
